The UK Market

The first country in Europe to have a fully dedicated Internet conference and exhibition - the UK still leads Europe in many aspects of Internet and Intranet adoption and integration.

As the third BT-sponsored Durlacher Quarterly Internet Report found, the Internet and Intranet issues aren't solely the concerns of the large corporates. Within the UK 39% of SMEs (small and medium enterprises) have an established Internet presence and that a further 29% intend developing one during the next 12 months. In addition 81% of all SMEs recognise that the Internet will be an intrinsic part of their businesses' future. Internet World UK targets SME's.

Recent studies from IDC on the UK market for Intranets and on electronic commerce reinforce the comprehensive focus of Internet World. The studies show that 61% of Intranet Web Servers are likely to be installed on new systems and 14.6% on a combination of existing and new systems in medium and large UK organisations. They also predict that electronic commerce will grow to £2.73 billion by 2001, representing a compound growth rate of 109% since 1996. Many decision makers are responsible for implementing both Intranets and electronic commerce solutions. They can see both at Internet World.

Comparable research carried out by INTECO in Europe reveals that the UK is well ahead of France and Germany in both external and internal email use - with email being used by 5 million people at work. The international Internet industry uses Internet World UK as a launch-pad into Europe.
